I met a man today. I always hear him speaking in Polish so I asked where he was from. His mother is from Poland and his father is from Austria. I briefed him on my trip to Scandinavia, specifically Gdansk. And he went on to tell me how lovely Gdansk was. I agreed. I told him about the amber cameo pin/necklace I saw. My biggest regret of that trip was not buying that cameo. The Victorian lady wasn't ivory laid on top of the amber. It was etched in and it was beautiful.
He then told me about his wife and how she has so many cameos and one exactly like the one I described and she just might give it to me. But I have to be very polite and proper in her presence because---wait for it--- she's royalty. Homeboy's wife has royal blood in her. Not only could I have gotten an amber cameo (from Poland!) but I could have gotten an amber cameo from royalty???? Say what?!
Unfortunately, she visits in the afternoon long after I leave. Not to mention how highly inappropriate it would be for me to accept such a gift. I'm just a volunteer.
I also got to talk to WWII veterans. That was fun.
